Winners of the LIB Rap Battle League’s L$100K Prize.

The Liberia Rap Battle League is set to make history with the introduction of the first-ever L$100,000 prize for talented rap artists in Monrovia and its surrounding areas.

Rapping, as defined by Wikipedia, is a unique form of vocal delivery characterized by rhyme, rhythmic speech, and street vernacular, often performed over a musical beat. In Liberia, rapping has a rich and distinct history, with many young people showcasing their creativity through storytelling and commentary on various aspects of life. Whether inspiring, educating, or entertaining, rap artists captivate audiences with their messages.

The LIB Rap Battle League, overseen by the World Association of Rappers (MC WAR) in partnership with Austrian Audio and Eternal Apparel, is making a significant impact on the local youth scene. Founded in 2021 by Saqar Ahaah Ahherhesu and Den Tut Rayay, two African Americans residing in Liberia, the league initially offered a prize of L$10,000 to participants. However, it has now elevated its game by offering a substantial L$100,000 prize, split among three winners.

The competition, which initially took place in a studio at HOTT FM 107.9, has now expanded to the streets, allowing young talents to showcase their skills to the public. As the league progresses, participants are gearing up for the upcoming semifinals and grand finale, expected to be held in the coming months.

Recent contenders, including Etonest Kennedy, Charles D. Johnson (Honest Boi O’Fresh), Trap Devotion, Bino Beno, Tommy Swaray (Talent K-10), Love Bem, Quavo Meek, and Trapco Instructor, battled it out on the streets of Monrovia’s Snapper Hill and Broad Street. Four winners emerged from this round, securing their spots in the upcoming semifinals.

While the Liberian entertainment industry faces challenges such as a lack of financial and moral support, poor infrastructure, and political interference, the organizers remain committed to supporting aspiring rap artists. Saqar and Den assure participants that efforts will be made to elevate their skills to compete on a regional and international level.

As the LIB Rap Battle League continues to grow, it serves as a platform for young artists to showcase their talents and pursue their passion for rap music, offering hope for a brighter future in Liberia’s entertainment scene.

The burgeoning rap scene in Liberia not only provides a platform for artistic expression but also serves as a catalyst for social commentary and cultural engagement. Through their lyrical prowess, rap artists address pressing issues facing their communities, amplifying voices and sparking dialogue on topics ranging from social justice to political accountability.

Despite the challenges facing the Liberian entertainment industry, including limited resources and institutional support, the LIB Rap Battle League stands as a beacon of opportunity for aspiring rap artists. By offering substantial prizes and creating a platform for exposure and recognition, the league empowers young talents to pursue their dreams and contribute to the vibrant cultural landscape of Liberia.

As the league progresses towards its climax with the upcoming semifinals and grand finale, anticipation and excitement continue to build among participants and fans alike. With each battle, rap artists showcase their creativity, skill, and passion, captivating audiences and leaving an indelible mark on the Liberian music scene.

Looking ahead, the LIB Rap Battle League holds the promise of nurturing and elevating the next generation of rap stars in Liberia. Through dedication, perseverance, and the support of the community, these artists will continue to push boundaries, break barriers, and make their mark on the world stage.
