President Boakai Amends Executive Order #124 to Ban Export of Unprocessed Rubber.

President Joseph N. Boakai has signed a new executive order today, amending Executive Order #124, which had imposed a moratorium on the export of unprocessed rubber from Liberia. The newly issued Executive Order #132 provides a temporary reprieve to support the farmers and businesses impacted by the sudden implementation of Executive Order #124, specifically aiming to assist rubber farmers affected by the ban.

This adjustment comes in response to concerns raised by stakeholders in the rubber industry, who have been facing significant challenges due to the abrupt halt in exports. The new order acknowledges the difficulties experienced by farmers and businesses and aims to provide them with the necessary time to adapt to the new regulations.

Executive Order #132 is intended to ease the transition for those in the rubber sector, allowing them to make necessary adjustments without suffering immediate financial losses. President Boakai emphasized that the government remains committed to supporting the agricultural sector and ensuring that policies are implemented in a manner that considers the welfare of all stakeholders.

The temporary relief period will enable rubber farmers to process their rubber locally, aligning with the government’s long-term goals of adding value to agricultural products and boosting the local economy. The administration plans to work closely with the affected parties to facilitate a smooth transition and ensure that the objectives of the initial moratorium—promoting local processing and enhancing the economic benefits of the rubber industry—are ultimately achieved.
