LRA Chief Reaffirms Dedication to Combating Fraud to Boost Revenue Growth.
Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) Commissioner General Dorbor Jallah has reaffirmed his commitment to combatting illicit practices within customs operations, such as false declarations and under-reporting, with the aim of bolstering the country’s revenue.
Commissioner General Jallah emphasized the crucial role that customs brokers play in Liberia’s economic landscape. He cautioned against unethical practices, such as advising clients to provide false or understated information about goods and materials.
Customs brokers, licensed by the LRA, serve as intermediaries between businesses and the tax authority. They facilitate the clearance of imported goods and ensure the payment of necessary taxes and fees.
Speaking at the 10th inaugural ceremony of the National Customs Brokers Association of Liberia (NCBAL) on April 26, CG Jallah stressed the importance of integrity in the work of customs brokers. He emphasized that honesty, integrity, and accountability are vital for revenue collection and sustaining the economy. Jallah urged customs brokers to uphold these values in their endeavors.
The Commissioner General reiterated the LRA’s dedication to offering thorough training for customs brokers. This training is designed to improve their proficiency in managing customs duties, clearance procedures, and tax payments effectively.
In extending congratulations to the newly appointed leadership of NCBAL, Commissioner Jallah urged them to serve as committed leaders who uphold transparency and accountability within the custom brokerage sector.
Jallah revealed that the LRA is in the process of establishing a system to publish the names of licensed customs brokers on its website. This initiative will enable taxpayers and the public to submit reviews about their experiences with customs brokers, fostering accountability through both positive and negative feedback loops.
In his inaugural address, James Hinneh, the new President of NCBAL, emphasized the importance of technical training among association members. He expressed gratitude for the LRA’s historical support and called upon the authority to recognize customs brokers as professional’s integral to revenue growth and the facilitation of trade and commerce in the country.
