Leaked Asset Documents of Former President George Weah.
The Liberian House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the unauthorized release of former President George Weah’s asset declaration documents to the public.
Under Liberian law, senior government officials, including presidents, are mandated to disclose their assets to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) upon assuming office. This measure is designed to prevent conflicts of interest and the illicit accumulation of wealth. However, these declarations are typically kept confidential.
Frank Saah Foko, a local legislator, has called upon the House to initiate an inquiry into the source of the leak, asserting that the publication of Weah’s asset declarations without his consent constitutes a breach of the law.
The individuals responsible for the leak have yet to be identified. In response to the situation, legislators have summoned high-ranking LACC officials to appear before them on Tuesday for further investigation.
During his tenure, the former president faced numerous allegations of corruption, which tarnished his administration’s reputation.
Following Weah’s departure from office, President Joseph Boakai, who emerged victorious in the November election, submitted his asset declarations in February. Boakai has pledged to combat corruption vigorously, signaling a commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
