Jeremiah Kpan Koung (born 17 March 1978) is a Liberian politician currently serving as the 31st vice president of Liberia. His political career began in the House of Representatives of Liberia, where he served from 2012 to 2020. Jeremiah Kpan Koung was elected to the Senate of Liberia in 2020. In 2022, he became the standard bearer of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction.

In 2023, Joseph Boakai, the former vice president and standard bearer of the Unity Party, selected Koung as his running mate for the presidential election. The announcement was made on 28 April 2023.

During the initial October election, neither Boakai nor the incumbent president, George Weah, secured a majority of the votes, leading to a run-off election in November. On 17 November 2023, after the run-off election, President Weah conceded, resulting in Boakai becoming president-elect and Koung becoming vice president-elect.

Following the concession by President Weah, the transition of power commenced, marking a significant change in Liberia’s political landscape. Jeremiah Koung, as vice president-elect, prepared to assume his new role alongside President-elect Joseph Boakai.

Koung’s experience in the House of Representatives and the Senate is expected to play a crucial role in his vice presidency. His leadership within the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction has also highlighted his ability to mobilize support and drive policy initiatives.

As vice president, Koung will likely focus on key areas such as economic development, healthcare, and education, aligning with the broader goals of the Boakai administration. Their victory has generated optimism among their supporters, who anticipate reforms and progress in various sectors.

The new administration aims to address the challenges facing Liberia and work towards a more prosperous and stable future for the nation.
